Spiel '05: Worlds Largest Annual Games Trade Fair

The world's largest annual games trade fair, the Essen Game Fair (known as the Spiel), takes place each October in Essen, Germany. This year's show features over 700 exhibitors from around the world, presenting more than 350 of the newest board games to over 150,000 visitors.

"Louis XIV", a historical strategy game in which you play the role of court attendant in the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King, was awarded the prestigious "Deutscher Spiele Preis" prize for the best game of 2005.

Other award-winning games at Spiel '05 include Niagara, Manila, and Ubongo. In all, 12 games are awarded prizes each year.
